EMDR Intensives

Ready for a deep dive?

Our full day EMDR Intensive sessions involve 6 hours of focused, transformative work that can really move the needle on your healing journey.

6 hours - really?

Yes really. In fact, depending on your goals and history, we may recommend several consecutive days in a row to make sure we can achieve results for you. We know it sounds like a lot, but here's why it works so well: instead of stopping and starting every week, we can really get into the flow of processing. Think of cleaning out a closet – sometimes it's better to just dive in and get it all sorted in one go rather than moving one item at a time over months, this approach means much less distraction and going off task. EMDR intensives make it easier to keep motivation up, stay on course and you really notice the change before and after treatment. The cherry on top is that its not uncommon to get more done in a 6 hour intensive than you would in 6 individual sessions - making it more cost effective.

Does it work?

Yes—intensive EMDR treatment is just as effective a regular EMDR therapy, however offers more rapid results. It is also evidence-based, safe, and effective. A growing body of research supports its use, particularly for PTSD. For example a 2018 paper found that an intensive EMDR approach lead to significant symptom reduction in 82% of people who previously experienced severe PTSD. However you don't have to have experienced a trauma to benefit from an EMDR intensive. Many people report a marked decrease in symptoms such as relational distress, performance anxiety, depression, avoidance, self esteem, hypervigilance, intrusive memories, nightmares, emotional numbing, and physical issues like headaches or digestive problems.

Who is it for?

Almost anyone.

  • It's perfect if you are ready to really commit to your healing and want to see significant change.

  • You are too busy too schedule in regular therapy sessions around work and family commitments.

  • You want to stick with your current non-EMDR therapist but also want to give EMDR a go.

  • You have done lots of conventional therapy and feel you need something deeper.

  • Your experiencing debilitating symptoms and need fast relief.

What can I realistically achieve in an EMDR intensive?

It really depends on your history, readiness and goals. The first step is to book a free 15 minute discovery call where we can talk about what you are hoping to work on, then we will advise you on what might be realistic and how many days we guesstimate we might need to reach your goal. We have had people bring all sorted of goals to EMDR intensives, for example treating a phobia, reducing intense reactions in relationships, eliminate PTSD symptoms, improve emotional regulation, stop avoiding, reduce performance anxiety, resolve relationship difficulties after infidelity, you name it.

How much does it cost?

A 6 hour EMDR intensive day with Gretta costs $1600. If you have a GP Mental Health Care Plan you are eligible for a rebate of $145.25 per day (or potentially more if you have reached your Medicare Safety Net - read more here or watch a video about it here). Its not uncommon for insurance companies such as WorkCover to fund the cost of an EMDR intensive. We can discuss this further during your discovery call.
